Jozef Sabovcik
Jozef Sabovcik was born in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia. He started skating at the age of six and eventually became a six-time National Champion of his native country and a two-time European Champion. In 1984 he won a bronze medal at the Sarajevo Winter Olympic Games, sharing the podium with Scott Hamilton and Brian Orser. His amateur career was cut short in 1987 after three knee surgeries took him off the ice for eighteen months. He moved to Stuttgart, Germany where he began to coach, working with European, World and Olympic competitors. Later he moved to Toronto, Canada, where he continued coaching, while slowly getting back into skating himself. By 1992 he was back on the ice, performing full time in countless shows, tours and professional competitions. His Rock’n’roll style, high jumps and a trademark laid-out back flip, earned him a nickname “Jumpin’ Joe”, given to him on national TV by his long time friend Scott Hamilton. Since 1995 he resides permanently in Bountiful, Utah with his wife Jennifer and two boys, Blade and Jozef Jaden. While he continues to perform extensively, he is also coaching on a full time basis, working with National and International competitors. Rates: $75/hour
