FAQ

When will the new facility be completed?
The facility is scheduled to be open in January 2011 if all goes well.  Refer to the "construction update" link for updated facility completion information.
When will memberships for the new center go on sale?
We will begin selling fitness memberships a couple of months prior to Grand Opening. Stay tuned for more information regarding when and where membership purchases will be available.
What types of memberships will be available and will there be any special offers?

All of our Salt Lake County Fitness & Recreation Centers offer a wide variety of center membership types:

The following is a sample Salt Lake County Fitness & Recreation Center fee schedule, designed to give you an idea of the general fee structure of the JL Recreation Center. THESE MAY NOT BE THE ACTUAL FEES WHEN THE FACILITY OPENS.

 

DAILY RATES:
Allows unlimited use of Center facilities during each area's open hours (i.e. gymnasium, racquetball courts, swimming pool, weight rooms, etc.) Additional $1 for attendance to aerobics classes.

Any company or corporation who officially establishes a corporate membership agreement with the Marv Jenson Fitness & Recreation Center with a minimum of six annual members may have their employees take advantage of of our basic corporate membership rates. Includes same as Basic Annual Membership.

SPECIAL OFFER

What type of youth classes will be offered and who will instruct them?
We will offer a wide variety of youth classes, including Karate, Dance, Gymnastics, Ballet, Music Theater, Art, Chess, Fencing, Swim Lessons, Youth Fitness & more.  All of our classes will be taught by professionals with the expertise and certifications required to instruct each specific class.
What type of youth sports will be offered?
All of our youth sports programs will be run through Salt Lake County Recreation and will include Basketball, Football, Volleyball, Soccer, Lacrosse, Baseball, Tennis, Track, Water Polo, Swim Teams and more.
What types of employment positions will be available and how do I apply to become part of the team (staff) at JL Recreation?

The JL Recreation Center will require many team (staff)members to keep the facility and all of its programs running.  Positions available will include:

Front Desk Attendants

Fitness Attendants

Building Attendants

Lifeguards

Swim Instructors

Swim Coaches

Youth Sports Specialists

Referees / Site Supervisors

Approximately 4-6 months prior to the expected opening of the facility we will be accepting applications for the above positions.  Stay tuned for more information regarding the acquisition & submittal of applications. Class Instructors 

Most of our class instructors will be contracted individuals/organizations with the expertise and qualifications to instruct their specific class. 

Potential contract instructors/organizations of any class type may submit proposals, resumes, portfolios, business plans, etc. at any time. Submissions should be made to facility director, Ron Preece.  Approximately 4-6 months prior to the expected opening of the facility, submissions will be reviewed; selected submissions will be granted interviews; and final contract intructor/organization selections will be made. Contact facility director, Ron Preece, @ 801-253-4404 ext. 7 OR rpreece@slco.org for more specific information regarding submission process.

Group Fitness (Aerobics) Instructors 

Our Group Fitnesses Instructors will be contracted individuals with the qualifications and certifications to teach their specific classes.

We will start accepting applications from certified aerobics instructors (land & water) 6-8 months from the expected opening of the facility.  Applicants may be required to teach a class at another facility as an audition. Personal Trainers

Our Personal Trainers will be contracted individuals with the qualifications and certifications required to conduct personal fitness training.

We will start accepting applications/resumes from certified personal trainers 4-6 months from the expected opening of the facility.  Applicants may be required to conduct a training at another facility as an audition. What type of Group Fitness (aerobics) classes will be offered, and who will instruct them.

We will offer a wide range of group fitness classes included in group fitness program. Step, Spin, Circuit, Cardio-Kick Boxing, Pilates, Yoga, Combos, Water Aerobics, and more. Certified Contract Instructors will lead these classes.

Will there be personal training?

Yes. We will have several certified Personal Trainers.

Is there an outdoor pool?

No. There will be two indoor pools: An 8-lane competitive lap pool, with diving boards. A leisure pool with water slides, a current channel, and other water toys.

Will there be hot tubs, saunas, and steam rooms?

No.

What organization will be operating this facility?
