Water Safety
Gene Fullmer Fitness and Recreation Center offers American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Classes and Water Safety Instructor Classes.
Lifeguard Training Classes
Student must be 15 years old by last day of class in order to register (Proof of age required on first day of class). Pre-screen test on first night of class includes continuous 300 yard swim (100 yard freestyle, 100 yard breaststroke, 100 yard combination of both), 20 yard swim and retrival of 10 lb. brick in deep end of pool (timed event 100 seconds max). 100% attendance required with 80% or better on written exams and successful completion of final skill scenarios to receive certification.
Cost: $155.00 ($10.00 non-refundable deposit included in the $155.00) Class fee includes book and supplies. Inquire at the center for dates and times. No guarantee that all students will pass the course.
Water Safety Instructor Classes
Student must be 16 years old by last day of class (proof of age required). Pre screen test on first day of class includes swimming 25 yards of the following strokes: front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, butterfly, and sidestroke. Also must be able to tread water for 1 minute and back float for 1 minute. 100% attendance required with 80% or better on written exam and successful completion of teaching assignments to receive certification. Cost: $165.00 ($10.00 non-refundable deposit included in the $165.00) Class fee includes book and supplies. Inquire at the center for dates and times.
