About Gene Fullmer

The center is named in honor of Gene Fullmer, a West Jordan native who twice claimed the World Middleweight Gene FullmerChampionship during the 1950's and 1960's. Gene was a tough, crafty, and aggressive fighter.

Gene was born July 21, 1931, in West Jordan, Utah. Younger brothers Jay and Don also became boxers.

Gene's amateur record was 70-4 before turning professional in 1951. His professional career was interrupted by military service in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
During his career Gene Fullmer's professional record was 55-6-3 with 24 KO's. His classic battles with "Sugar Ray" Robinson resulted in a 2-1-1 advantage for Gene.  Gene Fullmer was inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame in 1991.
