The Gene Fullmer Fitness and Recreation Center is a 50,280 square foot facility which includes lap and leisure pools, running track, full size gymnasium, aerobics area, fully equipped fitness room, and drop-in child care facilities. The Center offers programs such as fitness classes, aerobics, dance, karate, swimming, tumbling, Junior Jazz Basketball, and many other activities and youth and adult sports. The $7.5 million Gene Fullmer Fitness and Recreation Center is located at 8015 South 2200 West in West Jordan, Utah. The center is one of a dozen recreation facilities that were built as the result of the ZAP (Zoo, Arts, and Parks) program voters approved in 1997. The center is named in honor of Gene Fullmer a West Jordan native who twice claimed the World Middleweight Gene was born July 21, 1931, in West Jordan, Utah. Younger brothers Jay and Don also became boxers. Gene's amateur record was 70-4 before turning professional in 1951.
