The new system works by passing water through a chamber containing ultraviolet light bulbs, which sterilizes bacteria and parasites. Every 6 hours, all of the water in the pool gets turned over and passes through the pipe with the UV lights, where all of the organisms in the water are killed. "The ultraviolet light bakes any bacteria or parasites that are in the water, instantly killing them, and then the water is put back into the pool," explained Martin Jensen, spokesman for Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation. "These have been found to be 99 percent effective in treating recreational water illnesses such as cryptosporidium, giardia, E. coli." Registration has begun for all of our fun summer programs including Supersport, Superseekers, Aquasport, and Arts and Games in the Park.
